"I hate you! You don't understand! Why can't you get off my back and just LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Parents, how often have you heard this from your teen? You know he (or she) doesn't really mean it, but it still hurts. Your teen is hurting, too, and is acting out not because he is a monster and wants to make your life miserable. He's acting out because he doesn't have a clue as to how to deal with the pain, how to name it or even how to tell you about it. He doesn't know how to ask for help but is screaming for help.

"Adolescents are not monsters. They are just people who are trying to learn how to make it among the adults in the world, who are probably not so sure themselves."        Virginia Satir, The New Peoplemaking, 1988.
  • Is your teen being openly defiant, disrespectful, and disobedient?
  • Does he seem depressed, lost, or maybe even suicidal?
  • Is he isolating?
If the answer to those questions is "yes" then your teen may be feeling inferior, inadequate, unaccepted or unacceptable. If nothing you do seems to help, it sounds like you both could use some outside assistance. Who better to turn to for help than someone who can relate very well to what your teen is going through, someone who's been there?        I am a Licensed Psychotherapist specializing in Counseling for Teens who are suffering. My goal for over 20 years has been to help teens get back on track. I will help your teen:
  • overcome the pain of feeling unaccepted or unacceptable
  • overcome the pain of feeling rejected
  • end the rejection of self
